End of the month, going to do something a bit different with February but until then it’s ten from the Club Chart leaning into rarer / more obscure tracks and maybe some anthems, as much comment as I can muster (not much) and with hatred in my heart for Spotify.
And to explain myself on this point, Spotify is a company that has contentised art, stolen from musicians and treated them with contempt while profiting massively from their works. Fuck them. Buy some music from Bandcamp instead.
An early mention of Tommy Musto here.
And here’s Frankie “Bones” to go with him.
In some ways this was an indication of House music’s penetration into the UK psyche, the Style Council (arguably one of the most well known and successful bands of the era) covering an anthem and getting Joe Smooth and Juan Atkins into remix that track.

I note that the compiled by returns from black music venues mention on the chart is missing this week, but there’s a lot of Soul/Rap appearing so as mentioned above I’m going to change up in February. Record Mirror had a few different charts appearing each week anyway.
Full issue at WorldRadioHistory again, along with a load of other interesting magazines and stuff. Worth a visit.
